Escanaba, MI, United States (4E) – A formerly abused dog, now in the care of her new owners, found a naked toddler in a ditch in Michigan last week.
Authorities subsequently found the sister of the three-year-old and removed them from the home they lived in. Police said the girls lived in an unsafe and unsanitary home. Details about the kids were not revealed.
The new owners, a couple, of the dog said their pet ran up and down the stairs, barked, and yelped after she found the child. The dog then got her male owner’s attention and went into a field behind her new owner’s home. The owners of the pet added they then found the three-year-old girl shivering and curled up in a ball. They called authorities about the discovery.
The temperature during the discovery of the girl was around 32 degrees. Emergency responders said the girl did not suffered from any injuries but they still took her to an area hospital.
The former abused dog, named Petunia and now called Peanut after her new owners renamed her, suffered from two broken legs and broken ribs and people who found her took her at the Delta Animal Shelter in Escanaba last April. A judge convicted the pet’s former owner of animal abuse.
The couple also took to Facebook to talk about the heroic act of Peanut. They wrote, “Thanks to Peanut, a little girl’s life was saved today. She has been such a blessing to us, and now to others. Words cannot express how grateful we are that we have Peanut in our lives and how amazing she is.”
