A French man businessman is suing ride-sharing service Uber after his wife received notifications of his trips to visit his mistress, which led to his divorce.
The man logged into his Uber account on his wife’s phone one time. Alleging a glitch in the app, he says his wife continued to receive notifications related to his trips despite him logging out, which ultimately tipped her off to his affair. According to the man’s lawyer, the bug “has caused him problems in his private life.”
According to Le Figaro, the man has sued Uber for a reported $48 million. An Uber France spokesman told the magazine, “Uber does not publicly comment on individual cases, including the case of divorce proceedings between spouses,”.
The case is set for a hearing this month. It’s unclear why the man is asking for so much money.
Uber users running versions of the iOS iPhone software older than the 2015 release have previously reported similar problems with notifications showing up on a second phone even after they were signed out of the app, without even needing a password. The Android version does not seem affected.
