After posing for photos with Trump in the lobby, the comedian told reporters that he came to meet with Trump after the transition teams of both President Obama and Trump reached out to him last week.
“I came and talked to the guy who’s going to be the 45th President of the United States,” Harvey said. “[We spoke about] housing for urban development…[to] bring some positive change in the inner cities. He wants to do something. He realizes he needs some allies in that department. He seemed really sincere about it.”
“We got off to a great start. I think it could be the beginning of something,” he said. “I’ve always been interested in inner city problems, because they’re huge.”
He added, “I walked away feeling like I had just talked with a man who genuinely wants to make a difference in this area. I feel that something really great could come out of this.”
Harvey said he also talked with Carson by telephone during the session.
Steve Harvey hosts Family Feud, The Steve Harvey Morning Show, and hosted the 2015 Miss Universe pageant, in which he famously announced the wrong winner. “It’s not my jump into politics, I ain’t going to pass a background check,” Harvey told the press after meeting with Trump in Manhattan on Friday.
