Allegheny County, PA, United States (4E) – A teenager was found shot dead at a Penn Hills middle school while after-school activities took place, police confirmed.

According to reports, the boy, 17 years old, was found dead near a car at the parking lot of Linton Middle School. Allegheny County Police said they received reports about the shooting via 911 at around 4:30 p.m. School was already over but there were after-school activities such as sports practices when the incident took place.

The teenager, who remained unidentified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Several of the students said they heard a gunshot but no one came forward to say if they saw the shooting itself.

The police said they do not have any person of interest or suspect yet. They also said they believe the suspect drove away from the crime scene.

The teen who died did not go to Linton Middle School. It was not clear why he was in the area during the shooting.

A Penn Hill District spokeswoman did not comment on the matter. However, news surfaced saying an announcement from the school where the shooting took place claimed there was a threat found in the school. When police was asked if the said threat is in any way related to the shooting, they said no. It remained unknown what the threat is about.

The investigation is ongoing. The police’s homicide unit is also assisting the investigation.
