Trump: Only ‘Stupid People’ or ‘Fools’ Think Good US-Russia Relations Are Bad

Trump: Only 'Stupid People' or 'Fools' Think Good US-Russia Relations Are BadThe president-elect took to Twitter on Saturday to discuss the potential U.S.-Russia relationship under his administration, a day after U.S. spy chiefs briefed him on the Russian measures they said were directed by President Vladimir Putin.

President-elect Donald Trump said in a series of Tweets Saturday that “only ‘stupid’ people or fools” would dismiss closer ties with Russia.

“Having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing. Only ‘stupid’ people, or fools, would think that it is bad, We have enough problems around the world without yet another one. When I am President, Russia will respect us far more than they do now and both countries will, perhaps, work together to solve some of the many great and pressing problems and issues of the WORLD!” Trump tweeted.

Trump’s comments come just one day after he received an intelligence briefing blaming Vladimir Putin and the Russian government for hacking the Democratic Party during the 2016 election, and that Moscow acted to hurt Hillary Clinton’s campaign and swing the election in Trump’s favor.

President Barack Obama, who ordered the report, received it on Thursday, and a declassified version was released to the public after Trump was briefed. But, the declassified report contained no information about how the agencies collected their data or had come to their conclusions.

The report was largely mocked online for its lack of proof and misinformation.

Ties between Washington and Moscow have become strained in the wake of the allegations from the left and Russia denies the hacking accusations.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly questioned the assessment by American intelligence agencies that the Kremlin interfered in the 2016 election.
